[Hida Region] Fukuchi Onsen Summer Festival

The summer tradition of Fukuchi Onsen. The lion dance "Henbetori," which is also designated as an intangible cultural asset of the city, is performed every night. It is a lion dance based on the legend that when Emperor Murakami secretly visited for a hot spring cure, he comforted and defeated a poisonous snake that was troubling the villagers with the beautiful sound of a flute. It is a rare and charming lion dance where the lion and the snake engage in a lively exchange to the sound of the flute.
