[Hida Region] Fukuchi Onsen Summer Festival

The summer tradition of Fukuchi Onsen. The lion dance "Henbetori," which is also designated as an intangible cultural property of the city, is performed every night. This lion dance is based on the legend of Emperor Murakami, who visited the area incognito for a hot spring cure and soothed and defeated a poisonous snake that was troubling the villagers with beautiful flute music. The lion and the snake engage in a rare and charming exchange to the sound of the flute.
